國立清華大學以「自強不息、厚德載物」校訓的精神實踐永續發展。以聯合國的 17 項永續發展目標（SDGs）校準學校在教師研究、教學、學生活動、社會實踐、校園永續等任務，以覺知、校準、執行、評量的持續改善迴圈，成為學校推動永續發展的策略。同時，在 2020 年 10 月率先建立了永續長制度，由校長指派永續長，召集由各學院和行政單位的永續長組成的永續發展委員會，以區域創新中心為永續發展與社會實踐辦公室，積極推動清華永續發展的工作。並將各面向的工作成果，搜集、驗證、編輯成為每年定期發行的清華永續發展年報。
透過年報的出版，一方面作為清華永續發展進程的自我檢視，以期在不同面向的發展進行校準，調整資源，持續精進；另一方面作為清華對各利害關係者的資訊公開，尋求在永續發展的目標上，發展互信共好，價值共創的關係。
最後，本於「清華永續、一起執行」的精神與作法，本年報的資訊呈現了清華人在永續發展各面向的協力與合作的進程，在邁向永續發展以及大學社會責任的道路上，德不孤必有鄰，與企業、社會、世界一起同行。

National Tsing Hua University implements sustainable development in the spirit of its motto, “Self-discipline and Social Commitment." We use the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations to standardize the school's tasks in areas such as faculty research, teaching, student activities, social practice, and campus sustainability. We have established a continuous improvement cycle of awareness, alignment, execution, and evaluation as our strategy for promoting sustainable development. In October 2020, Tsing Hua took the lead in establishing the “Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs)” system, with the vice president as the chairman, and convened a sustainable development committee consisting of CSOs from all faculties and administrative units, with the Regional Innovation Center as the Office of Sustainable Development and Social Practice, to actively promote NTHU's work on sustainable development. The results of these efforts are collected, verified, and edited into the NTHU Sustainable Development Annual Report, which is published regularly every year.
The publication of the annual report serves as a self-examination of NTHU's sustainable development progress, allowing for calibration and resource adjustment in various aspects of development while continuously improving. On the other hand, it serves as information disclosure for stakeholders, seeking to develop a relationship of mutual trust and value creation based on the goal of sustainable development.
Finally, based on the spirit and practice of “Tsing Hua Sustainability, Let’s Do It Together”, the information in this annual report presents the progress, collaboration, and cooperation of every member of NTHU in various aspects of sustainable development. “Virtue is never left to stand alone. He who has it will have neighbors.” On the road towards sustainable development and the university's social responsibility, we will walk together with enterprises, society, and the world.
